Splash, Splosh, Splish - to defeat a Witch!

🍀 Jenny-Anne the Dragon Slayer and Ellie the Elf had another wondrous adventure where they helped Ellie's pixie friend, Andrea. This story is filled with onomatopoeia .

(Onomatopoeia is the formation of a word from a sound associated with what it is named. Basically, they are words that denote sounds like Boom, Zap, Crash etc. The origin of the term is from the Greek word onomatopoiia which means ‘word-making’, from onoma, onomat- ‘name’ + -poios ‘making’ from poiein ‘to make’).

Andréa was a brunette pixie and a friend of Ellie's. She was a wizard at music and could always be found humming a new tune. Her sweet lilting melodies would attract the chirping birds and animals.

Strolling through the forest, one day, with her friend Tobious, she was lost in her world of music, humming her latest song. The sweet melodious rhythm mesmerised all the animals and they came to her, rustling through the undergrowth. Suddenly, she bumped her toe against a hidden rock. She lost her balance and caught hold of Tobious. The sudden movement caught him by surprise and they fell forward with a crash!

The moment they hit the ground, they felt a Zapp of magical power and realised they had fallen into a hidden portal! With a swoosh, they were suddenly transported to the end of the portal.

They emerged from the portal with a vworp and found themselves in a wonderful and beautiful place, the banks of the gurgling River Beam. A buzz of excitement built up inside them as they were dazzled by the place. However, their thrill soon died out as, with a crash, they understood that they were lost and far away from home. They flittered through the bushes, frantically looking for a way home.

Suddenly, they heard............. Mwahahaha!

It was an evil high pitched cackle.

It was Ellinore, the evil witch famous in all three realms, the magical world, the mundane human realm and the witch domain.

They heard the clacking of her wooden staff on the stones as she clattered closer. Their hearts fluttered with fear and they were magically frozen to the spot where they stood.

"Andrea the pixie, I am giving you three days to bring me the books of your magical music that gives you the power over the birds and animals. If you don't, you will never see your friend Tobious again", boomed the evil hag.

She swooped down onto the spot where they stood, frozen helplessly, grabbed Tobious and took him to her castle.😱

The instant she left, the magical spell ended with a poof and an alarmed Andréa found herself back in the forest of fairyland. Andrea knew that she needed the help of the Dragon Slayer. She contacted Ellie through the fizzing waters of a rainbow spray and asked her to bring Jenny-Anne and meet her at the Fairy Monument of Goodness. Her heart was thumping faster and louder than ever before as she waited. Slowly, as time ticked away, the pots of the magical water clock at the monument trickled empty.

With a snap, crackle and pop, Jenny Anne and Ellie the Elf arrived at the monument, having travelled by pixie dust. A relieved Andréa hugged them both and told them about the problem.

Jenny and Ellie wracked their brains for a solution. Jenny was looking at a squirrel on the tree whose branches gave shade to the monument. An acorn slipped out of the squirrel's hands and fell into the magical water and some of the water splashed Jenny on the face.

Wham! The idea struck her with a boom! Jenny jumped up and cried, "I know what to do! When I was four years old, I remember reading The Wizard of Oz. When Dorothy threw water at The Wicked Witch of The East, she died. So, all we have to do is to get Ellinore wet."

The three friends collected all they required and, soon, the plan was in full swing.

Jenny and Ellie disguised themselves as Andrea's helpers and filled sacks with old music sheets and they hid the other things they would require to defeat Ellinore. Ellie performed a complicated spell with pixie dust and they walked through the shimmering and tinkling portal and found themselves outside Ellinore's castle. They rapped on the doors and the doors opened with a creak.

The three friends soon found themselves in the presence of Ellinore.

"Give me the music", cried Ellinore.

"Not before you return Tobious", said Andrea, more bravely than she felt.

Ellinore brought her staff down with a bang and a weak and ill Tobious was suddenly lying at their feet. He had a fever and his teeth chattered and he shivered with cold. Ellinore rushed forward and grabbed the bags from the hands of Jenny and Ellie. She twirled her staff over her head and prepared to bring it down with a swish to imprison Andrea, Tobious, Jenny and Ellie forever.

Quick as a flash, Jenny and Ellie took out their hidden water pistols. Squirt! Squirt! went the pistols. The water burned Ellinore. She chased after the four friends into the forest. Bawling and babbling with pain she did not see where she was going and, with a splash, she fell into the river. Ellinore was dissolved by the water with a hiss and a gurgle and her magic faded.

The friends were saved and they soon found their way back to fairyland. As Andrèa thanked them, Jenny felt her mom shake her.

She was sure it was another adventure and not a dream.😊
