Over the last few weeks, I have told you about my favourite authors and the series of books they have written. Since I had introduced you to some of my favourite authors, I thought that I should now tell you, in detail, about the various books they have written. Mummy told me that this is called a book review, so here it is; my book review of "The Cat in the Hat" by Dr Seuss. I hope you like it.

The book, "The Cat in the Hat" by Dr Seuss is a humorous book belonging to the genre of Children's Literature and is meant for age group 2 to 7 years

The book was first published by Random House and Houghton Mifflin in 1957. The edition that I have was published by Harper Collins Children's Books in UK in 2003, so, the book is older than I am!

When I was learning about writing a book review, I also learnt some other interesting things. The book can be identified by it's ISBN number - ISBN-13 : 978-0-00-715844-7. An ISBN number is a unique, special number that is given to books to identify the book or edition. It was started in 1970 with 10 digits but it increased to 13 digits in 2007. All these details about the publisher, ISBN number and edition are found on the back of the first or second page of the book. Sometimes, it can tell you if your book is very rare and valuable, specially if you have a first edition of the book (like some of my Harry Potter Books) and also where it was printed.

This book tells us of the wild story that takes place in the imagination of the main character (Dad says I should call him the narrator), on a boring, wet and rainy day when he and his sister are forced to stay inside because of the weather. There are seven characters in the book. They are :-

- The narrator (me/ the boy). We experience this story from his point of view.

- Sally, the narrator's sister. She is mostly silent and spectator in the entire proceedings.

- The Cat. The protagonist of the story, the Cat is an example of all the naughty things that the children would like to do when they are alone at home. He is an example of their playful, over confident wishes and desires.

- The Fish. This is the children's conscience that keeps telling them to tell the cat to go away.

- Thing 1 & Thing 2. They are like the naughty children who will create havoc in the house when they come over to play, like some of the friends we all have.

- Mother. She is......Mom!

It shows us the importance of the power of imagination. It also shows us, through the activities of the Cat that a lot of things that look like fun are not good at all. However, there are a few important lessons we learn, too. Firstly, we learn that we should never underestimate the power of imagination. If we have imagination, we can never get bored. Next, through the fish, it tells us that deep within our hearts, we always know what is right and what is wrong. Lastly, it tells us that we should always keep things back after we play

The book was fun to read as the language was easy to understand. I would recommend that you read it as soon as you can.

Do you want to experience the story the way Dad read it to me for the first time? CLICK ON THE VIDEO ABOVE.

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
