In my previous post I talked about the importance of books. I always wondered about the first book written and I learned something very interesting.
All ancient civilisations had some form of writing to keep records and to tell stories. The cavemen wrote on the walls of their caves. This was called Cave Paintings or Parietal Art.
People then started writing on animal skins, tree bark, clay tablets and even on cloth.
The first books were on papyrus scrolls or clay tablets.
The person who "invented" books as we know them today was the German inventor Johannes Gutenberg. He invented the printing press and made it possible for books to be available easily for everyone.
His invention has made possible for us to read beautiful stories. So, what should we read, to begin with?
Here is my list of 10 authors / series who write beautiful books for children who are beginners :-
Authors
1. Eric Carle.
2. Julia Donaldson.
3. Enid Blyton.
4. Dr Seuss.
5. Roald Dahl.
6. Ruskin Bond.
7. Sudha Murthy.
8. J.K. Rowling
Series
1. Grimms Fairytales.
2. The Ladybird Series.
I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did.
